What is the TSI?

The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is a state assessment designed to determine if a student is ready for college-level coursework in the general areas of reading, writing, and mathematics.  This assessment will also help determine what type of course or intervention will best meet the student's needs and to assist in becoming better prepared for college-level coursework.

  • Mathematics: minimum score of 350
  • Reading: minimum score of 351
  • Writing: a score of 5 on the essay section or a score of 4 on the essay section and a minimum score of 340 on the multiple choice section.

Everyone is required to take a pre-assessment prior to taking the TSI. To complete your pre-assessment now, please visit the CASA website

The TSI is not used to determine whether or not a student is accepted to Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. It is a tool used to determine if the student is ready for college-level coursework. For students that are unable to attend the Summer Prep Academy, there are online resources such as the Accuplacer App, Khan Academy, and YouTube videos that can be used to help with preparation for those that want to retest prior to starting the first semester.
